But in typical fashion, we Baby Boomers are redefining retirement. Freed from the grinding responsibilities of work and family, Boomers view retirement as a new beginning, and opportunity for personal discovery and growth. And, with good reason, this is the first time in history a generation is retiring with 20 to 30 more years of life. There is still plenty of time for us to reclaim the youthful passions of our years before kids and work. Or, to chart a new course entirely.

But, with longevity comes challenges, not the least, is figuring out when and where to start our new life, how much it will cost, and how to pay for it all. Complicating things more, the recent recession hit pre-retirement funds hard, and many of us may not be able to  live the retirement we had envisioned.

But, scaling back does not have to mean less. 

With sound planning, we can still experience our most precious and valued desires. No amount of savings can buy us time, but that is exactly what our generation has been given. Beyond that, everything else is a bonus. With extra time, we truly can enjoy the riches of a longer, more exciting retirement. You just have to know what you want, and go get it!

My wish for everyone ready, or already retired, is that you find the location, lifestyle and home of your dreams, and enjoy the sweetest gifts of all–faith, health, love, and time.
